SO YOUN KIM FRSA

SO YOUN KIM is a Fellow of Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) and a member of British Art Network (BAN) and Royal Academy of Arts as well as Art Deco Society UK, Art Deco Society of New York who wears multiple hats of different nature:

Abstract Artist
Researcher in International Affairs
President of NPSIA (Norman Paterson School of International Affairs) Alumni Association
Advisor in Public Policy and Analysis

SO YOUN has an interesting cosmopolitan background; born in Seoul, Republic of Korea, she has started studying abroad in Canada since 14 where she has had intellectual and sophisticated journey in her life including times at Trinity College School and Norman Paterson School of International Affairs. SO YOUN has a variety of intellectual curiosities by applying her analytical thinking from a social scientific lens to her artwork of contemporary abstract expressionism paintings where she conveys her philosophical inspiration from reading texts of great classics, such as John Ruskin’s writings on art and life, Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations, Michel Foucault’s postmodernism, a success quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson. In a variety of discipline she cuts across, SO YOUN applies social scientific lens to translate artwork she created which she was inspired academically and intellectually from research in international affairs, the practical policy and analytical skills of which she uses for work for analyzing public policy issues; the leadership on international affairs also led her to network with people as the President of NPSIA Alumni Association in Ottawa, Canada. SO YOUN is open for opportunities for art and research.

Here is SO YOUN’s cross-disciplinary thinking about the intersection between the subject of international affairs and art. SO YOUN speaks Korean, English, and French and loves cooking for her friends in her free time.

“My definition of international affairs is literally everything about everything, since in this globalized world, everything we talk about is literally international; innovative toward international affairs is as such including topics such as fashion as well. surely, international affairs are cultural affairs.”

This is the most recent interview I conducted with Arts & Culture Network:

Here are what my collaborators say about my work:

“So Youn’s art captivates with its vibrant originality, and invites the viewesrs into a multisensory exploration of beauty and emotions.”
Guiliani Tassi, Project Manger of ITSLIQUID GROUP
“In the whirland of daily life, I consider that each of  So Youn’s paintings follow a specific harmony and strong emotioanl energy that aims to illuminate the body and spirit. Signs and forms follow one other repeatedly as if it is a continous quest toward an infinite dimension, where colors contribute to arouse unique and unpredictalbe emotions.”
Dr. Carmela Loiacono, Art Historian and Curator of Arts exhibitions at Apuls Aste
“‘So Youn Kim’s use of colour feels like refracted light through a stained glass window – the multimedia of collage, oil pastel and acrylic coming together to form something uncontrolled, yet somehow cohesive.”
Oumaima Grissa, Curator of the THE HOLY ART GALLERY
“Our curators selected the pieces of So Youn Kim as her work is really something unique that our art collectors have been hugely interested in. We hope to see you again for the next Tokyo International Art Fair.”
Tasha, Curator of the Tokyo International Art Fair
